Yuezhi

An early confederation of nomadic tribes in Ancient China, active during the first millennium BC. After being defeated by the Xiongnu (predecessors of the Huns) in 176 BC, they split into two groups, the Greater Yuezhi and the Lesser Yuezhi. The Greater Yuezhi migrated toward the area of modern Kazakhstan and settled around Bactria. Later they overran parts of India, and founded the Kushan Empire. The Lesser Yuezhi migrated to the Tibetan Plateau. The original Yuezhi can be considered the founders of the Silk Road.
