Trebizond, Empire of

On the Southern shores of the Black Sea. Located in today’s Northern Türkiye, bordering Georgia to the East. (Known to Ancient Greeks as the Pontos.) In the 14th century it was the richest land in Europe. Wealthy from the Silk Road Trade, small and mostly neutral, but still powerful enough that nobody wanted to mess with it. The emperor of Trebizond is related to Khuitani, Prince of Gothia, who heads the vassal state of Theodoro on the Crimean Peninsula. Trebizond was an important Byzantine bulwark against the Ottoman/Muslim invaders. Though it finally fell to the Ottoman empire at the end of the famous siege of Trebizond in 1461 AD. The inhabitants of Trebizond are called Trapezuntines.
