Temenos

In Ancient Greek “temenos” describes a piece of land marked off from common uses in order to become dedicated to a god—also a sanctuary, a holy grove, or holy precinct. In the OC a temenos refers to any sacred place, such as temples, churches, or sanctuaries, meant to function largely outside the passage of time. Customarily these are places where people deposit mementos of themselves or their culture as offerings supposed to withstand time, and to be remembered by the gods. This is an indirect form of achieving immortality since one is believed to continue existing in the mind of a god.
