Gates of Yond

A sort of “timelock” or “temporal valve” set up by the Ouranians for their temporal incisions. Second Selves are not “inserted” into our world through a physical interface like a membrane, much less the equivalent of an “airlock,” but via a temporal “intrusion” or “cut.” It is for this reason that the Sense of Self, that is, Self-awareness, remains confined to “manifesting” or “taking place in the Present.” Kayin’s Self must pass through the Gates of Yond when heading to the future, as well as when he returns to the past. But the process itself is not up to him, since the Ouranians control the Gates. See the Gate to the stars behind Mnemosine, guarded by the Goddess—no doubt Persephone—who returns the initiate soul to his or her origins.
