Bloodmilk

A rare substance sacred to various shaman traditions and other dreamwalker groups, including the Forest People. The brew’s main ingredients are the medicinal saps from two different trees: the Dragon Tree, whose sap is known as Dragon Blood, and Milkwood (Alstonia scholaris), whose milky sap has a rubbery consistency. Dragon Blood has been prized since antiquity for its healing properties and magical uses: Roman Gladiators used it to heal wounds, and it was known to reduce fevers and to cure or prevent ulcers, particularly in the mouth and throat. In Theravada Buddhism the Milkwood Tree is said to have been used by the first Buddha to achieve enlightenment. Bloodmilk also contains a third substance, known only to the Forest People, used to induce lucid dreaming. It is one of the necessary ingredients for Kayin’s Incubation and protects him from developing ulcers or fevers in his semi-comatose state. It also nourishes parts of his skin, thereby preventing the development of sores.
