Of Babylon, an ancient Mesopotamian city on the Euphrates River. It was the political and cultural center of the Akkadian-speaking region of Babylonia, whose rulers established two empires in antiquity: the 19th–16th century BC Old Babylonian Empire, and the Neo-Babylonian Empire (626 BC–539 BC), historically known as the Chaldean Empire.
