Ancient Mesopotamian empire, centered on the city of Akkad/Agade, which reached its peak during the 24th to the 22nd centuries BC. It succeeded from the Sumerians, who submitted to the Akkadians sometime between 2230 and 2210 BC. Compare Chaldean.
